Summer Skincare Guide: Hydration 101

So why is proper hydration at the top of our summertime skincare list?

Prioritizing adequate hydration is extra vital to the skin, especially when the temperatures rise and we are prone to more natural water loss. Ensuring we're hydrated this summer means more water in every cell of our body. When the body is well hydrated, it leads cells to swell and be plump and bouncy, and in skincare, that means reflecting light well. YAY

 What are my top 5 tips for mastering hydration:

  1. Exactly how much water do we need? Most of us have probably heard we should be drinking a minimum of 64 oz of water per day or half our body weight in water. For example, If you're about 170 lbs, that would make your daily water intake 85 oz per day minimum.
  2. Start drinking water early, right after waking up. Water should be our first choice in the morning to wake up our digestive system, before coffee or tea.
  3. Carry your water with you everywhere you go. If you carry a water bottle daily, you're far more likely to meet your optimum daily water intake and thus feel much better.
  4. Eat your water. Add foods high in water content during summer, like watermelon and cucumbers, to help the body stay hydrated.
  5. I recommend we take a two-step approach when talking about hydration in skincare. First, we hydrate internally, plumping every cell in our body as we've covered in 1-4 above. Step two is adding a super hydrating serum to your daily skincare practice. Try a water-based serum like our Plumping Serum with Hylauronic Acid & Vitamin B5 morning and night after spritzing skin with your Rose or Lavender Toner Water. Following this up with your favorite moisturizing oil can improve the feel and appearance of thirsty skin by hydrating the skin cells topically, giving skin a smoother, hydrated texture.
