This week is the last of our summer skincare series, and we're talking about protecting our skin from the sun. So what do you need to know this summer?
⭑ What does SPF mean? Sun Protection Factor
⭑ When should we wear sunscreen? Wear sunscreen every day, even on overcast days. If you're unsure, try downloading a UV Index app onto your smartphone.
⭑ What should I look for in a clean sunscreen: Choose physical/mineral sunscreens over chemical sunscreen every time.
⭑ A broad-spectrum sunscreen blocks UVA & UVB rays, which are responsible for sun damage and accelerate aging.
⭑ Don't forget to apply sunscreen to overlooked areas, like the back of your hands.
⭑ Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes and the delicate skin around the eyes.
⭑ Who doesn't like shade? Pack a hat, and wear it when you're in direct sunlight to protect your face, neck, chest, and shoulders.
⭑ You can still tan while wearing sunscreen, so don't skip it.
⭑ Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours if you're out in the sun.
⭑ Replace expired sunscreen!
⭑Your skin being exposed to sunlight is how your body makes vitamin D, so some unprotected sun exposure is necessary. I choose to go out during sunrise or early morning and late evening at sunset when I'm going without sun protection to minimize skin damage.
